Appointments

Appointments System

If your appointment is urgent, please telephone the surgery at 08:30. Requests for urgent same day appointments will be assessed by your GP who will allocate an appointment appropriate to your needs. If you call later than 09:30, we may not be able to give you an appointment the same day.

If your request is not urgent, please phone after 09:30 to book a routine appointment two or more days in advance. Please do not request a same day appointment if you do not have an urgent medical need.

Patients are encouraged to book routine or follow-up appointments in advance. Unless you are suffering from an urgent medical problem, you will be offered an appointment within 7 days. This will provide more flexibility in the system to enable us to offer a same day service for urgent appointment requests and emergencies.

Emergencies at weekends will continue to be dealt with by the out of hours service.

Please remember that GP consultations are ten minutes long. If you have more than one problem, your doctor may ask you to book another appointment.

Booking Appointments Online

We have a new online booking system for patients. This is currently available for doctor appointments only.

In order to access this service, you need to register in person for online access with the receptionist. You can download the Online Access Request From in advance from the New Patients page. Please bring with you one form of photo ID (i.e. a driving licence or passport) and a proof of residence. Each family member will need to register separately. Your application will be processed and you will recieve login details from reception within the following few days.

Once you have created your online account, you will be able to book your appointment directly into our appointments system, as well as order your repeat medication.

Telephone Booking System

We have an automated appointment booking system to work alongside our existing telephone and internet booking system. When telephoning the practice, you will be given the option to make an appointment (or to change/cancel an existing appointment) 24 hours a day. This service is currently for GP appointments only.

Please note, when cancelling an appointment using the automated system, you must give at least one hour’s notice. If this is not possible, you will need to speak to a receptionist.

Telephone Advice

If you wish to talk to a doctor, please telephone during morning surgery and ask the receptionist to place you on your GP’s telephone list. They will endeavour to call you back between 11:30 and 12:00 noon.

If you phone after 12:00 noon, you may not be able to speak with your own doctor until the following day. However, if your call is urgent, you will be placed on the duty doctor’s afternoon telephone list.

Extended Practice Opening Hours

The practice is able to offer appointments from 18:30 - 19:30 on Monday evenings for patients who are unable to attend a routine appoinment during normal surgery hours. These appointments must be booked in advanced which can be done either online, by telephone, or face to face with a member of reception.

Automated Check-In

Please use our touch screen in reception to let us know that you have arrived for your appointment. This can be used for all doctor and nurse appointments.

All you have to do is press the month you were born, the day you were born (1-31) and the first letter of your surname. The computer system will then mark you as having arrived and advise you where to wait for your appointment.

Cancelling Appointments

Missed appointments result in an increased demand for appointments and are costly to the practice. If you can no longer attend a pre-booked appointment, you can cancel it either in person or via telephone with a member of the reception team, via the automated telephone appointments system, or via the link at the top of this page. Please note that appointments cancelled using the automated telephone service need to be done more than an hour before the appointment time.

Home Visits

For a request to be visited at home call: 01379 870689

Home visit requests are always handled by a doctor. It would greatly help us if requests could be made before 09:30. A paramedic will often carry out home visits on behalf of the GP.

Interpreter

If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and they will arrange this for you.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day except in the event of a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
